Ant control is one of the things that seems to drive our customers crazy when it happens to them.
Ants in your pants, or on your plate?
Here in western Pennsylvania, we encounter two types of ants most of the time. We generally find carpenter ants and pavement ants. Pavement ants are commonly called sugar ants. Both types are black in color. Carpenter ants are 1/4-5/8 inch. Pavement ants are small 1/16-1/8 inch. Ants are a social creature that lives in colonies and treatment needs to take that into account. to be effective, we need to kill the entire colony. It is pointless to just spray the ants you see with a can. of spray from the supermarket. At best these will kill a few ants and scatter the rest of the colony.
Why do ants enter my home?
Ants may enter your house looking for food, or because your home is built o the tree that the carpenter ants used to go to, or to for shelter from the weather. Ants enter through the smallest openings, foraging for water or food. They are in search of food. Ants will eat almost anything but protein or either sweet. Once the ants find a food source, they will leave a trail for other ants to follow. If you do find signs of an ant infestation in your home, contact a pest professional promptly. They will be able to inspect your home, perform proper ant species identification, and recommend a course of ant control and extermination.
Ants in the kitchen?
It is likely that you will find ants in the kitchen. This is because poor sanitation is the primary cause of ant infestations. So when you leave dirty dishes in the sink or food residue on countertops you are likely to attract ants. Of course, crumbs on the floor and trash not frequently emptied also provide food sources for meal-seeking ants.
