Rodent removal and control is more than just setting out a few traps. When it comes to the health and safety of your home or business, it needs to be done the right way. Otherwise, damage of all kinds can ensue. Here’s what you can expect when you utilize rodent control with Boo’s Bug Stoppers.
Rodent Removal: The Inspection
The first and most important step is a thorough inspection of the home or property. It is during this step that we will inquire about any and all input you have as the property owner. The pest control operator (PCO) needs to be aware of any rodent droppings, the areas where rodents have been seen, and any previous issues with rodents. During the inspection, the PCO will look for any entry points, nesting areas, or any food or water sources.
Rodent Removal: Treatment Plan
Once the inspection is complete, the PCO will recommend a treatment plan based on their findings. Sealing up any entry points will usually be the first step. The next step is to eliminate any rodents that might still be in the home. The preferred method through the use of traps, which will be placed based upon the initial inspection. Mice only travel 10-25 feet from their nesting area. Therefore, it is important to locate the areas of activity.
Snap traps are the most common and widely used rodent trap. We at Boo’s also use glue traps which can catch multiple rodents. As a final option, we can also use live traps if that’s what the client prefers. It is important to note that the user should wear gloves while handling traps. Human scent and cleaning chemicals can deter rodents from traps.
Rodent Removal – Clean Up
Once the PCO feels that the home is rodent-free, any and all rodent droppings will be cleaned up and all surfaces completely sanitized. You may have seen ads for rodenticides, but we at Boo’s will not use them inside a property for several reasons. Firstly, they can be harmful to people, children, and pets. Not to mention, these rodenticides can also cause secondary poisoning. If a mouse dies from the rodenticide and a cat eats the mouse, the cat could get sick and/or die.
Rodenticides are usually used around the outside of homes or businesses to eliminate any rodents before they can make entry into the home. However, we will only do this is if the client does not have any outside pets. Finally, we make sure all rodenticides are placed inside a locked and tamper-resistant bait box to avoid any contamination.
